SimonLawder After a long career in leadership positions in commerce and community worlds, I've become fascinated to discover why so many leaders who, I assume, started off with the most honourable intentions, end up by abusing their power, believing they are above natural and humanitarian law and, in the name of "the greater good", tell their people to commit acts which they know will cause suffering and loss, at the very least, to their victims. What fascinates me even more is that we allow them to get away with it. So I decided to write a series of scenarios where we can imagine what might happen if different groups of these "wilfully blind" egocentric individuals decided to go over the top. "Under Current", published in the UK by Mercer Books, is the first of these "What if?" novels to go public. It's essentially a spy conspiracy novel - a Burgess/Maclean/Philby story for the 21st century. The political premise is real, the characters fictional. The possibilities scare me; I hope they scare you as well.
